want to re use old drive

hi al, i just replaced the drive in my HD box and want to use the old one on my jtagged xbox. when i go to format it it say's that the drive is write protected, iv hunted high and low for solutions. iv checked teh bios and its set as "write protect" disabled, in windows iv had disk management open and totaly wiped the partition so the drive is a RAW format but still when i try to format to fat32 still says write protected. so any ideas?? thanks
